2021 Virtual Over Night Experience – June 26

Please join us for a virtual Tommy Fuss Team Overnight zoom meeting on Saturday, June 26th at 3 pm EST. While we will not be gathering for our pre-walk luncheon and Overnight Walk, we want to “see” one another, renew our commitment to removing the stigmas associated with mental health, reach out to those in need and reduce the number of suicides.

This year I wanted to add content to our get together and we are extremely fortunate to have Matt Nock and Alex Millner join us to discuss preliminary data on suicide coming from the Center for Disease Control, the rise of suicidal ideation and attempts among young people, and some of the tools they are using to identify those most at risk.

Matt Nock is Chair of the Department of Psychology, Harvard University, heads the Nock Lab and is a leader in the field of understanding self destructive behaviors. (See https://psychology.fas.harvard.edu/people/matthew-k-nock).

Alex Millner is Director of Mental Health Research at Franciscan Children’s Hospital, Boston and collaborates with the Nock Lab. I know they will have much information to share.

To make best use of everyone’s time, I ask that you send me questions you have for Matt and Alex by Wednesday June 23. This will keep us on pace to have the second half hour to remember those we’ve lost to suicide and time to socialize.

Matthew K. Nock, Ph.D.

Edgar Pierce Professor of Psychology
Harvard College Professor
Chair, Department of Psychology
Harvard University

Matt is a professor of psychology at Harvard and leads a lab there focused on advancing the understanding, prediction, and prevention of suicide.
Alexander J. Millner

Director of Mental Health Research at Franciscan Children’s and a Research Associate in the Nock Lab, in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University.

Alex leads the Franciscan Children’s Mental Health Research team, whose work is focused on better understanding and treating mental health issues among adolescents, particularly suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Alex also is a member of the Nock lab at Harvard University.

Please wear your red Tommy Fuss Team tee shirt (or something that reminds you of Tommy). We will remember Tommy with our annual Gatorade toast so be prepared with red Gatorade, or a drink of your choice. We also ask you to light a candle on June 26th as a symbol of our luminaria to remember our loved ones and to light our way to bring mental health issues and suicide out of the darkness.

We will remember those we’ve lost to suicide with a poem and a slideshow. We have all the names and photos submitted last year. If you would like to add someone, please send along a picture and/or a name that we might include this year. Please send that along at your earliest convenience.
