Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk
Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk 2016
New York City — The Tommy Fuss Team's 10th Overnight Walk, June 4–5, 2016.
“I wanted to learn about suicide because I thought it was probably the most difficult thing I would face as a clinician. If we can understand the behavior and develop better ways of detecting it and assessing it and preventing it and treating it, we can help people all over the world.”
Matthew K. Nock, Ph.D.
Director, Laboratory for Clinical and Developmental Research, Department of Psychology, Harvard University
The TFT was proud to have Dr. Nock and three of his staff participate with them in the 2015 Boston Overnight Walk.
The Tommy Fuss Team returns to New York City for its 10th Overnight Walk this June 4–5. To date ninety-two individuals have crewed or walked nearly 2,600 miles from dusk till dawn to raise awareness, remove stigmas and raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Each year we walk to remember and honor our beloved Tommy, and all those whose lives have been lost to suicide.
10 years. A world before smartphones and social media. Before booksellers became film and TV producers. So much has changed in the ways we communicate, especially for the young. This has led to new pressures but new opportunities as well. Our mission, though, remains the same. Get the word out. Reach those who are struggling. Fund new research. Educate and raise the level of understanding and compassion. We still need your help, now more than ever. Thank you for what you have already done and for your continued support.

A Note from Valerie
WE DID IT!!! Thank you to each and every one of you for participating in the Tommy Fuss Team's tenth Overnight Walk. I hope you all made it home safely, have eased your sore muscles, and have caught up on some sleep. I hope it was a meaningful night for each of you and I hope you found strength and comfort knowing that what we are doing will help those who are suffering from a disease we know so little about and will help to save precious lives.
Together—as walkers and crew—we were successful in raising awareness, supporting survivors and raise money for the important work of the AFSP. Although I do not have our final team fundraising numbers, we have proudly raised over $45,000.00 this year. Thank you for all your fundraising efforts and your own personal donations.
Lastly, thank you for remembering and honoring Tommy in this special way—you are truly a wonderful Team. Thank you for putting up with all of my emails… and for always responding promptly to my numerous requests! Thank you to Joe for all the behind the scenes artwork and website design, and for always gathering us for our annual team picture. And above all, thank you to RoseMary and Dan for hosting our annual team luncheon and being our backbone and support. Their courage, strength and love are truly the "wind beneath our wings" as we journey together—one step at a time—to bring issues of mental health and suicide Out of the Darkness.
With sincerest regards and thanks,
Valerie
